document name not valid

I use Word 2002 on XP. I am suddenly getting the following error: “document
name or path is not valid†when I try to open a .doc file that I previously
saved. I see the file in the Windows Explorer (and the Open dialogue box),
but Word cannot open it? I have tried double clicking the Explorer address,
selecting on the Word File menu and selecting the “recently used†document.
Is there a way to open these files in Word or another program? This has
happened twice in two days. I have saved other Word documents that I could
open later during this time.

Possible cause: In both cases, I cut/pasted text from PowerPoint into the
document?

Thank you for your help.

I encountered the same problem recently and after
*paying* for support found that there is a simple fix:
In the open dialog box there is an Open button on the
bottom right. After selecting your problem document click
the drop-down arrow of the Open button and choose "Open
and Repair".
Hope this helps
