Document name or path is not valid - but it is

The document is there, but double click on it and I get this error message:

"The document name or path is not valid. Try one or more of the following:
* Check the path to make sure it was typed correctly (it was and I click on
the file directly or move it somewhere or rename it, it comes up with the
same message)
* On the File menu, click Open. Search for the file using this dialog box.
(I know where the file is and it doesn't open)

I can load it into WordPad, but it has so much formatting that would be lost
(and I can't copy and paste it even if I wanted to) that I don't want to use
this method if I can help it.)

So how do I get Word to read this file?

Sorry, Tom. I didn't notice your second post saying that you
found a solution to the problem. Just pretend I wasn't here...
