Never try to open documents directly from a floppy. Always copy them to your
hard disk first. Specifically, you get problems because Word has to create a
copy of the document to work with, which it tries to put in the same folder
as the original. On a floppy you quickly run out of space, are very likely
to get corruptions; and it doesn't work at all if the floppy is
write-protected.
