Document name or path not valid

I get an error message when retrieving a document "document name or path not
valid. What would cause this. The document is there. I tried to rename. I
opened the document in wordpad, but it doesn't keep the formatting. Any
suggestions??

Do you have Norton Anti Virus? Disable the Office Plug-in option in NAV.

According to Office MVP Beth Melton:

If Norton AV was installed at one time then the DLL for the Office
Plug-in could still be registered.

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. It does
not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:

It doesn't happen to all your documents...

Is this consistent i.e. always the same documents that won't open and the
same documents that will open? Which version of Office are you using? Is
there any commonality about those that will open and those that won't open.

We are using Office 2002 sp3. This just started happening. On Thursday I
had a call from a user with this error on one of her documents. On Monday,
another person calls with the same error on one of her documents. Maybe the
files somehow got corrupted. I was able to fix both by retrieving them into
Office 2002 sp1 and saving then reopening them in 2002 sp3. It's just weird
because we have been running office 2002 for about 1 year and I have never
seen this problem. Hopefully thats all we will see. Prior we were using
wordperfect. Thanks for all your help
