Document name or path not valid

Eric

I have had several teachers reporting that Word documents
sent as attachments fail to open. They keep getting 'The
document name or path is not valid', even if they have
already saved the attached file to disk. The files can be
opened in Wordpad without formatting, but WOrd
consistently refuses to open them. Are we looking at a
problem with Word, or is it something our Exchange server
is doing?

Are you opening the files using Word's File Open or by double-clicking in
Explorer? Are the files on the HD or a floppy?

Yes, yes, yes, and no. :)

I've tried opening files both ways, by double-clcking and
by File => Open, and I get the same result both ways. The
files have been located on both the exchange server and on
the local hard drive, and they seem to behave the same
either way.

If they were on removable media, I would have one answer. If you were just
double-clicking, I'd have another. But if they're on the hard drive and
you're still getting the message when trying to open from Word's File | Open
dialog, then what is required is a third answer that I unfortunately do not
know.
