document not available

micheal

I have WIndows XP and OFFICE WP. AFTER downloading
service packs one and two, the documents stored in WORD
are no longer available. The documents are still on the
computer, they are still intact, and WORD cannot find
them or open them. Furthermore, I created a new document
inside WORD, saved it, then tried to call it back and
recieved the same message "Document not available". I am
using default settings, have not moved or changed
anything. In the event "normal" may have something to do
with this, every time I exit WORD, it asks if I want to
change NORMAL, and if I say no, it will not let me exit
word.
H E L P, please.
Micheal

Known problem, caused by a conflict with the Norton Office Plug-in. See
"OFF: Cannot Open Office Documents or Cannot Edit Inserted Objects After You
Install Office XP Service Pack 2 or Office 2000 Service Pack 3 [KB328613]"
at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328613

Hi, Finally have the solution. Comes in various parts:
1) in Word or Excel, click on Tools>Macros>Security>Low
setting;
2) Start>Run> enter "regsvr32 -u "c:\program files\norton
antivirus\officeav.dll"
This removes the Microsoft Office Plug-in option in NAV
Now you can access your files.

Hi Chris,

Macro security is irrelevant in the inability to open the files. The
Office Plug-in option (officeav.dll) is the cause of the problem.

It's recommended you set your security to Medium - especially if you
disabled the Office Plug-in which is supposed to protect against macro
viruses - however the AutoProtect layer has always worked for me.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
