"Document Not Saved" error today - Cause and Solution

Just an FYI. I don't know where else to post this, but hopefully it helps
someone here.

A microsoft update was automatically installed on most of our computers
overnight or this morning. After that we were unable to save to a network
shared drive (mapped drive) in any Office 2007 program. It turned out that we
were only unable to save to our file server which is still running NT4. I was
able to save to a Win 2k3 server ok. I was also able to save to the NT4
shares with every other program I tried.

After removing Security Update for Windows XP KB980232 everything worked
fine again.

Hope that helps someone!

You will need to go to uninstall programs in control panel, on each system.
Select show Updates, then Sort by Date last used, Should be near the bottom. Just click on remove.

Additional information - on our system, we could still save to the default (c$) share on the NT4 server, but not to any shares we had created ourselves. Removing the MS update allowed saving to these shares as well.

We've seen the same issue. I hope we can get some more information & patch
this vulnerability. To remove, you can also script running
"c:\windows\$NtUninstallKB980232$\spuninst\spuninst.exe /quiet /norestart".
Too bad we can't uninstall it via WSUS.

If you installed any other programs or updates after that update was
installed, you may have to uninstall them in reverse order until it will let
you do it.

Additional update:

A week later it seems a few computers are now having MANY errors after
removing that update. Like these:

Fault bucket 1819286903.

Faulting application ???????.exe, version 6.50.0.2316, faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x7e029c0e.

(???? is any program name that is running)

Faulting application eudora.exe, version 7.1.0.9, faulting module
mshtml.dll, version 8.0.6001.18904, fault address 0x00360249.

I have a feeling that removing that update left the system a bit unstable. I
can't find anything else wrong with those computers.

Hi,
I have the same problem and I have been attempting to remove the KB980232
update without success. The update does not shown up in Add/Remove programs.
Does show up by going to the MS Update site as being installed on the 4/13. I
found the info in the Registry and the uninstall info
as:C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB980232$\spuninst\spuninst.exe. However, I get an
error "The system cannot find the path specified".
There are 4 directories in windows listed as $NtUninstall.... of various
types but nothing as required above. The all the various KB files are listed
a dir of $hf_mig$.
Going into the KB980232 dir and changing the path to
C:\windows\$hf_mig$\kb980232\spuninst.exe i got an error saying it couldn't
find an inf file. That was located in a dir under "update" in the KB909232
dir. Copied the inf file over and reran it again and a window came up saying
this "will remove XP" ???
I stopped there! I tried to RESTORE but every one failed prior to the 13th.
So now what???
Thanks and have a great day,
