Pam, I am not familiar with any bugs in newer versions of
Word that would allow this. If the document file resides
on a network, then the first person to open it takes
precedence. If someone else attempts to open the document,
they will receive a message that the document is open by
another user, and prompts them to make a copy as read
only. Any changes made by the second user will not affect
the document. You can also password protect the document
to prevent unauthorized changes.
