document opens and freezes

I have a 2-page document with a 4-column table. Whenever I open the document,
it and other Office applications don't respond for about 5 minutes. I have
many other documents with larger tables that don't behave this way. What
might be the cause and solution?

Does the document have links in the table to another source?, is th
data static or does it calculate on opening

I had a bunch of hyperlinks but unlinked all of them and there are no links
to other documents such as IncludeText fields. Neither are there any
calculations.
