Document Recovery starts every other Word launch...

I have Office 2003 installed on Terminal Server 2003 and it's been working
fine for over 2 years now. All of a sudden whenever any user laucnhes Word it
will start Document Recovery. I have already deleted the normal.dot(s). This
happens every other launch like clockwork. I already tried a Detect & Repair
but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Is it always the same file it is trying to recover? Does the file exist? If
not, you will need to create a dummy file with the same name and let Word
Recover the file: then it should clear the recovery file.

Thanks for the reply and yes it is always the same one. I have saved it, I
have removed the original and saved it again and of course just hit close but
to no avail every other start of Word no matter the profile used and it's the
same thing.

Go to Tools, Options, File Locations Tab and check the path to the
AutoRecovery Location. Then use Explorer to navigate to that folder and
delete the abandoned files.

Then with all applications closed, empty the Local Temp folder of abandoned
files. This should be at Documents and Settings, Username, Local, Temp and
it should be empty when all applications are closed. You may need to reboot
to delete them all.

Terry,
Once again thanks for the help. No go I checked the location and cleaned out
any and all documents where it says the AutoRecovery location is and then I
manually cleaned all the local temp files for each user... what a PITA that
was {;o)
And still the same thing happens every other launch of Word and I get that
AutoRecovery toolbar. And rebooted too.
Here is a very odd anomaly I have discovered....
When it starts with the AutoRecovery toolbar on the left side you can go to
View-Toolbars and unselect Document Recovery BUT...
When you launch it and the toolbar isn't on the left if you go to
View-Toolbars the option doesn't exist to select Document Recovery. Very odd.

I'm quite baffled by your problem. What happens if you start Word in Safe
Mode? From Start, Run type in

winword /a

and press enter. Does Word still prompt for an AutoRecovery?

I presume that all users have their own local normal.dot and you are not
trying to share one on a Network?

Terry,
I tried that and same exact thing with every other launch of Word using
winword /a I get the Document Recovery Toolbar and everyone has their own
normal.dot and as said earlier I deleted all of them. Any other ideas? And
thanks again.

What happens if you go to Tools, Options, File Locations and change the path
for Document Recovery?
