Document Recovery

I turned off my computer without saving a document on accident. I have done
this before and it has been recovered, but this time the recovery window did
not pop up and I was just wondering if there is still a chance it was
recovered and if so, how do I get to the file, that is without going to a
professional.

MS Word creates "scratch" space, with file names, for each open document.
Normally, MS Work looks for any orphaned scratch files and calls them
"recovered" documents. You can search your computer to see if there is one
(several) that Word missed.

First: Ensure that you can view those files
.. Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View tab
.. Select the radio button "Show hidden files and folders"
.. Click the "Apply" button, then OK out.

Second: Search from the root of all physical hard drives for orphaned
scratch files using parameters that will provide useful results:

~*.doc

Explanation:
~ (tilde) is the character with which MS Word as "scratch" space for "each"
open document. You want to look at all files beginning with this character.

* (star) means "any and all characters"; you have no clue what characters
Word appended 'after' the tilde, but you do know that there are several.

. (dot) a demarcation between a file "name" and a file "extension", which
denotes the default program which opens the file.

doc the file extension of MS Word documents

Look through each result. If you find your lost document - great. If not -
don't 'DO' that no more.
