Document Scanning tool crashes when you use the tool to scan a document after you install 2007 Offic

After doing some research when I stopped being able to use Microsoft Office
Document Scanning (from Office 2007 Ultimate on Vista Ultimate (x64)) with
my Canon CanoScan LiDE 600F, I found the following Microsoft Knowledgebase
article (kb943087). I'll just say that 1) I'm highly disappointed that
Microsoft would release a Service Pack that flat-out breaks something that
worked before, 2) the Workaround noted in the KB article is sad, and 3)
people should be aware of this before updating:

"The Document Scanning tool crashes when you use the tool to scan a document
after you install 2007 Office Suite Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS
When you use the Microsoft Office Document Scanning tool to scan a document,
the tool crashes.

This problem occurs after you install 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service
Pack 1 (SP1) on a computer that is running Windows Vista.

This problem occurs when you use one of the following scanners to scan the
document:
.. EPSON GT-6700
.. EPSON GT-S60
.. EPSON GT-S600
.. Canon CanoScan FB1210U
.. Canon PIXMA MX 300
.. Canon CanoScan LiDE 90
.. Canon CanoScan LiDE 500F
.. HP Officejet 7210 All-in-One
This problem does not occur in the release version of the 2007 Microsoft
Office system.

CAUSE
This problem occurs because of a bug in 2007 Office Suite SP1.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use another scanner application. For example,
you can use the scanner software that was included with the scanner. If you
are using Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate, you can use the
"Windows Fax and Scan" tool.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products
that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

APPLIES TO
.. 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1
