Document Security in Word 2003 Beta

VWilliam

Hi,
I'm using Word 2003 Beta (11.5329.5329). I have been able
to sucessfully apply password security to Word documents.
However, I'm stuck with providing user names with access
permissions to read and change a document from the address
book in Outlook. I have my Outlook address book
configured. However, Word refuses to open a dialog box
that displays all names in the address book. This problem
is solely with the dialog box not being able to pop-up and
is not a problem with Outlook or connectivity with its
address book. This is because I'm able to resolve user IDs
to user names from the Outlook address book - by typing
the user IDs in the user name text box.

Would it be possible for someone to confirm if this is an
issue with the beta release of the software.

thanks and regards,
Vijay William J

Hi VWilliam,

I went through this same problem, and it turned out that it's
not OUTLOOK that Word has to communicate with. Click all the
information links you can find in those dialog boxes, and
also look up IRM (Information Rights Management) in the Help.

What you need is an IRM service (there was one provided by MS
during the beta) that "holds" these Email addresses for you,
and registers the people who use them. Apparently,
corporations can set up such servers, or third-party
"providers" could, on the web. But there isn't any such thing
out there, yet. I guess it's questionable how useful this
feature will be outside the corporate environment.
