document title

When I click open a word document from its icon, the title
default to Document 1, 2, ...
What do I need to do to get it to default to the actual
file's title?

This happens if the document you are trying to open is actually a template.
That is the purpose of a template - to keep you from overwriting the
original by making you save it as a document. Is this the case?
