Document Type MSO 2007?

Something I noticed today. In my folder list view for my, excel, PP, and
word, they are all shown as 97-2003 worksheets, documents, presentations. So
I downloaded the compatibility program and read some tutorials on this.

I created all these documents in MSO 2007. When I try to change them back
to 07 it converts but will not open so I changed it back.

Is this a default of the compatibility program? I am unable to create a
word doc in 2007 or any of the MSO programs in 07. Ideas? Thanks B

If you have Office 2007, then the compatibility tool is NOT for you. It is
meant for people with older Office versions so they can read Office 2007 files.

I'd suggest you remove the compatibility tool from your system and run a detect
and repair from Office 2007 setup.

Hi Jan,

I ran the detect and repair twice during the period I was attempting to
discover what was wrong. Nothing tuned up of was logged from either of those
two sessions.

I then went through this App errors and read in one instance where someone
w/MSO, 07 had loaded the compatibility program and it helped?

I did unload it and run detect and repair again today to no avail. I still
get the error messages when loading excel and or a different one when
attempting to run set up to uninstall. Shane suggested a link to do a manual
uninstall but I choose not to do that yet, I am a little weary of performing
that function.

Why would excel in office 2007 have trouble opening a 1997-2003 .xls document?

Jan, this is why I installed the compatibility pack, see dialog from previous

I understand. I don't know why you would have to install it though, Office 2007
knows how to save to those formats "out of the box", the compatibility pack is
meant for people with older Office versions so they can read & write Office 2007
files.

Maybe Shane has more info about this?
