Document will not open

I have a word document that will not open. when I double click the document,
word opens and it tells me how many characters there are in the document then
after waiting a while i get a message that says winword.exe has generated
errors and will be closed by windows. you will need to restart the program.
Is there any way I will be able to open my file?

If this is Word 2003 (or 2002?), try using the Open and Repair option in the
File Open dialog (click the arrow beside Open). If it's an earlier version,
you should be able to at least recover the text using the "Recover Text from
Any File" setting for "Files of type." Also see
