documents beneath toolbars

N

Nancy Alsip

I recently got a new iMAC. I use Word X for Mac and have all the latest
updates. I didn't have this problem with my previous MAC computer.

When I open a document, it opens beneath the toolbars. Therefore, I have to
close the toolbars, move it down, and then reopen the toolbars. This gets
annoying and time consuming. Is there something I can do to get the
document to open below the toolbars?

When this happens to me, I choose Window > Zoom. m.

Hi Matt,

What happens when you do this? Does it actually re-dock the toolbar? We
usually recommend this method:

Move the topmost toolbar down a bit and then very slowly drag it back into
place. When it is almost docked, it becomes temporarily highlighted with a
darker border. Let go of the toolbar and it should snap into place. It's a
little tricky but you'll find the "sweet spot" eventually.

As soon as the toolbar snaps into place, the document window will also snap
into it's normal position below the toolbars.

It does nothing to the toolbar. The toolbar is not the problem. The
problem is the window. It resizes the window so that it is not covered
by any toolbars. m.

Okay, so that's a workaround for when you get a window stuck somewhere and
you can't reach the title bar to move it (which is a problem I don't have in
Word 2001 because I can drag a window from any edge :).

But ... it won't solve Nancy's problem, which is something different. She
can get to the title bar to move the window but *every* new window opens
behind the menu bar and that's because her toolbar has come undocked. To
fix that, she needs to use the workaround from my last post.

Okay, gotcha. I'll see if that helps my situation too. m.
