documents folder won't open

After opening Word I click on the saved documents folder on the tool bar. It
will not open. When I check the Windows Task Manager, it indicates the
program is not responding. Any suggestions on what the problem is and how to
fix it? I'm using Word 2002.

WOW, this is amazing. I just entered a plea for help similar to yours today:

Perhaps this suggestion may work for us. I just received it but haven't yet
tried it out. Please let me know if you learn of other solutions. It appears
that we must hve received an automated update that is causing the problem
that we may have to uninstall? Your response will be appreciated.

I read a series of problems that all appear to be exactly what we are
experiencing. I guess we are not an isolated incident.

If you would have taken a few minutes to look through the posts in
this forum, you'd see that at least half of the messages in the last
few days have been about this exact problem.
