Documents keep shutting down

I have been fighting with Word 2007 for months and months now. I have done
repairs from the disk, updates, everything I know, but nothing has worked.
When I'm typing a document I have to save it every few minutes or I will lose
it. The hourglass comes up...not responding. Sometimes it will finally let
me continue, but other times it will just shut down the document and if I
haven't saved earlier, I lose it all. I use Word for my work at home, so
this is very frustrating. This happens with every document, every day, ever
since I have installed Word 2007. I don't really want to go back to Word
'97. Please help!

It is probably not an issue with the application itself but with personal
files and add-ins. See
