Documents open to gray screen

I am using Office Pro 2000 and XP Pro SP2. Multiple users use the computer.
One user when double clicking on a Word or Excel doc to open gets a gray
screen. The document will open fine is Word or Excel is open prior. Any
ideas on how to solve?

ideas on how to solve?

Try going to Start/Run and running the following commands:

winword /r
excel /regserver

Note the space before the forward slash. Additionally, Word and Excel will
not start but the file associations, along with other various Registry
entries for Office, will be recreated.
