Documents permissions

Hi there,

For some reasons, anyone can open a shared document, modify it and save it.
The document says that it is a "Read-Only" but this state seems false?

Any idea what might have caused this? I thought that only the author could
make changes!!!

The person must first "Check Out" the document in order to "lock" it and keep
it from being edited.
