documents saved in word/excel 2002 in word/excel 6.0 format

Dave M.

I am running Office 2002 SP3 (10.6501.6714) and am finding that when I get a
template or document created by another with XP or later, and try to save it
after additions/corrections, I get an error that says that some of the
formatting is not compatible with Word (or Excel) 6.0/95 and will be lost.
Then it gives a list of the formatting and instances that will be lost. What
gives? I thought I was running ver. 10?

Any help would be appriciated.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Save | uncheck the "Disable features
introduced after" box | OK. Click on File | Save as | Save as type: Word
document (*.doc).

In Excel, click on Tools | Options | Transition | Save Excel files as:
Microsoft Excel Workbook | OK. Click on File | Save as | Save as type:
Microsoft Excel workbook (*.xls).

Hi Dave,

In Word check in Tools=>Options=>Save to see what
the default save version is as well as checking which
version is listed in File type in File=>Save.
