All charecters of my documents (excel & word) when opened

been lost. Please help!

Hi David,

In Tools=>Options=>General turn on [x] confirm conversions at open
and then in File=>Open check to see that 'Word document' is the
current file type before opening the file. You can get that
type of appearance when Word doesn't recognize the file or you
open a binary (zip/graphic/corrupt/encrypted) file.

If you're working off a removable disk copy the file to your
hard drive before starting Word and opening the file.
