Documents with "find" feature disabled

Hi,

So, I keep getting documents from other people that mess with my "find"
feature. For example, the find feature appears to work, but you type a
word in the dialog box that you know is in the document and it says it
did not find the word in the document. ONce I open one of these
documents, the "find" feature doesn't work in any of my other word
documents until I restart my computer. How can I open these files
without having it do this, and what did these people do to make this
happen?

thanks

aubrey

Would these documents (or their templates) be running code?

The most common cause of Find 'not working' is having formatting set and the
user not realising it - for example, looking for your string only in bold.
The Selection.Find Object is persistent so badly behaved code can make this
kind of change to your environment. Closing and reopening Word will resolve
it but is rather extreme.

If any formatting is set it will show as label text under the Find what box
and can be cleared by clicking on No Formatting (with the cursor in the text
box). If you can't see the No Formatting button, click on More... first.
