Documents with formatting don't display properly

When a user opens documents with Tables or Tabs, Word shifts everything to
the right and nothing displays properly. The user can clean up the formatting
manually, but this shouldn't be happening. I have re-installed word 2003, and
even deleted the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software/microsoft/office/11/word key to
reset to factory and the problem persists. Help!! I don't want to blow the
users profile away as she has other, very complex software installed that
would take hours to re-install.

Is Track Changes disabled?

With the removal of the Registry Key, Word is supposed to be set to 'first
install settings'. Unless there is a file that Word is picking up (which is
what I suspect) that is causing these issues, nothing that isn't normally
turned on, should be on.

Does the issues still occur if you start Word in Safe Mode? Hold Ctrl while
starting Word and continue holding Ctrl until you are prompted to start in
Safe Mode. Also, how are you opening the files? Are you using File/Open or
double-clicking them outside of Word?
