Documents wont open up after they download! need help fast, for sc

I have microsoft word 2007 that i downloaded free from my school. it was
working great for the longest time and now after i try to open a document to
display on word it downloads but doesnt show it when completed! what is going
on?! i can use word and everything but for some reason the documents wont
open when i need to pull sometime up. someone please help! :) thanks emily.
