When they transferred the files, they forgot to set the permissions.

So they have arrived on your computer using the permissions granted to the
other computer's user, and that's not the user ID that either of you have on
your new computer.

In the Apple help, look up the help topics " Setting permissions" and " If
you can¹t move or copy a file or folder".

You need to select the folders where those files are, and give your wife's
user ID "Read and Write" permissions to the folder. The system should
prompt you if you also want to change all the files in the folder ‹ say
"Yes".

Cheers

It's possible that the files are locked as well, so checking the files
for that would be another thing to do.

Cheers,
