**.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with contents.

I'm having an emergency regarding a Word file I have spent dozens of hours.
I am using Word 2007 Ultimate.

I am getting this error: "**.docx cannot be opened because there are
problems with contents" when I attempt to open a very simple Word document.
My computer crashed and then when I tried to reopen the Word file I started
getting this error. I am not a programmer or anything and really need to use
this file today.

What simple process can I do to get the text of the file out? Google
searches gave me no help whatsoever.

I must say I NEVER had any of these problems with any of the earlier
versions of Office. This XML format is a nightmare for regular users like
me.

Sincerely,
Lee Vasche

There are a couple of things that you should try. The first is to try
and repair the document.
1. Open Word
2. Click the Open folder (Office Button, Open)
3. Browse to where your file is located.
4. Click ONCE to select your file.
5. Click the down arrow next to the Open button in the dialog box
6. Select "Open and Repair"

If that does not do it for you, then you can recover any recoverable
text.

1. Open Word
2. Click the Open Folder
3. Browse to where your file is located
4. Change the Files of Type combination box to "Recover Text from Any
File (*.*)
5. Select your document
6. Click Open

This document will contain lots of information that you won't need, but
it should provide the bulk of your text.

Dawn,

Thanks for your response. I tried the "Recover Text from Any
File" option and only get gibberish. I've also made a copy of the file and
changed the name of the copied file to a "zip" file and then tried to open
the "documents.xml" file within the zip. Nothing happens when I click the
documents.xml and when I try to export the contents of the zip file I get an
error.

Could I possibly email the Word file to you to see if you could figure it out?

Thanks,
Lee Vasche
