Hi, can anyone help? I have just completed a four page newsletter in word project, it is 34mb so quite big. I have tried to send it as an attachment but the servers won't accept 34 mb of email. I want to merge this doc with mail and send it out as a newsletter. Is this possible? I have tried the mail merge lesson and don't seem to get anywhere.

Well, there's no such thing as a 34 MB "newsletter".

At that size, it's either the worst kind of spam, or it is a personal insult
to the recipient. Believe me, that's the way they will experience it!

You first need to reduce the file below half a megabyte, otherwise it won't
survive ANYONE's spam filter. Ideally, I would knock it back to about 250
kb.

That's your most urgent problem.

All the bloat will be in the graphics. You need to delete each one, then
get stuck in with a graphics application and re-size them. Re-sample each
image to 96 dpi.

Then crop it until it is the size (in pixels) that you intend to show it at.

Then save it as JPEG, and turn the "Quality" down to 50 per cent.

Then put the pictures back in.

This will have an absolutely dramatic effect on the size of your document.

If you still have problems with the merge after that, come back and we'll
talk you through the rest of it.

Cheers

Another thing before you might try John's excellent advice is the
following. :

Save the document with a slightly different name.

In some cases that helped me in the past. That won't take you but 10
seconds to try. If it doesn't make any difference, do John's suggestion.
And you'll know this doesn't work in 2008.

By choosing Insert menu => Picture => From file (then navigate to where the
graphic file is). This produces a smaller file size.

Note: In Word 2008, which I don't use yet, this information may not apply,
or may be accessible through a different interface. If that causes problems,
post back and someone will help you further.
