Does additional SW affect SEO?

There are a number of add-in SW packages (such as JIMCO spawn) that insert
code at the beginning of a page. I've heard that this can affect search
engine ratings, because the text of the page (which contains the keywords)
then occurs later in the page. The logic is that the later a keyword appears
on a page, the less importance it has in the view of the search engines.

I accept this as true for text (e.g. keywords should be at the beginning of
text) but I don't know whether SW inserted prior to text has this issue.
Comments?

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Hi,

Search engines only read text between <body> </body> so as most scripts sit
in the head of the page it shouldn't make a difference. Having said that I'm
a firm believer in making the site as easy to crawl as possible, so anything
CSS, script etc should be in an external file.
