Does anyone know how to import a Quark or Indesign doc into Publi.

I'm needing to convert a tag-enhanced Indesign/Quark document into a
Publisher document for ease of use. How to I import into Pub while keeping
the variable information ? I'm trying to avoid recreating the whole document,
and adding tags from scratch.

You need to recreate the whole document, and adding tags from scratch.

Wouldn't it be easier to work with the native file?

BTW, exactly what is a Quark/InDesign file? They are completely
different programs.

Quark and InDesign are technically the samy TYPE of
program. InDesign will import Quark and Pagemaker files
and make them workable. They arent completly different.
Just Adobes way of getting rid or Quark

They are completely different, although of the same general type (i.e.
page composition programs).

Neither program has native importaiton of the otehrs files. There are
add-ins that can make this sometimes possible.

Adobe has written importation routines importing/converting PM and XP
for IDD. Sometimes they even work. Forget abouot importing XP6 files,
however.

Quark will import some Pagemaker docs if you use the commercial XT
available from Marxware. I do not think it works with PM7 and maybe not
with 6.52.

In all cases of such imporation, the imported document will require some
work to get it right. Sometimes a little bit, sometimes a lot.

Adobe also wrote an importation scheme for MSPub files that was imcluded
with PM 7 (works with version 98 and earlier, I think). Again...this is
Adobe's work and it works sort of.
