Does it take a long time to extract a report from OLAP Cube?

It depends. Why don't you give us more details about what type of data you
are trying to extract?

We are using Project Server and we have today around 200 published projects
and more than 100 resources in the enterprise resource pool. We need to
extract a report from the Portfolio Analyser, with the following information:
Project Name, Resource Name working for the project,Time (Sometimes using
some filters), Total=Work. It takes 1 hour to export it to excel, and can
take longer if the period considered is bigger than 2 months. CPU usage hits
99%! Is it normal?

When you say export to excel, how are you doing this ? Exporting from a Data
Analysis view will be much slower that creating a connection to the cube
directly in excel and therefore bypassing the activex controls.

The speed of these operations is also driven by the spec and load on the
server(s). ie, You will find this much slower if OLAP in on the same server
as the SQL DB's and even slower if more than one user is consuming the data.

I'd strongly suggest undertaking an audit of your environment in order to
ascertain where the bottlenecks are.

Paul,

Thank you very much, your answer was really useful. It seems that I can get
this report faster than before.

Audit will be done as soon as possible, supported by a consultant.
