Does Office settings get enforced by GPO

Hi
I have always assumed that Grup policy settings, if configured, are enforced
and that they get sooner or later refreshed even if user has modified them in
the meantime. Office 2003 User templates seems to prove me wrong.
For example if I set Spelling and Auto correct options in the policy and
user modifies it, at next logon the user should get refreshed settings from
the policy. However I am seeing that modified settings user applied are
retained.
Anyone had the same experience?
