You'll need to contact Dell to get a copy of the software they sold you.

Hi C.C.N.,

Check that the title on the Microsoft Office CD has the
same title as what is listed as installed for Microsoft Office
in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel.

If so, search the CD for *.MSI files to see which one you
do have. You don't need the same CD originally used but when
it's looking for the main installation file (.MSI) it will need
the same version and product.

Thank you for your help.I checked the cd and it was actually the media cd and
not the one listed in add and remove.I'm sorted out now but discovered that
there is a download for users who don't have the original cd.I tried that one
just to seeif it would work without xp cd and it did, perfectly. So I suppose
the answer is if there's any difficulty in obtaining the cd one should always
check or doublecheck microsoft.I did look before but couldn't find such a
download.I will try tp post a link to the appropriate page if I can find it
again.
Thanks again to everyone who helped me.

To install SP3 without the original Office XP CD

When installing SP3, you may be prompted to insert one or more of your
original Office XP CD-ROMs.. Follow the instructions on the screen to
complete installation. Note: Some users will still be prompted for the
original CD when using the Office XP SP3 Full File Version, depending on your
installation of Office XP. For more information, please see the Microsoft
Knowledge Base article, (828451) OFFXP: Why Service Packs, Updates, and
Security Patches May Require the Office XP CD-ROM.
