Does Outlook require Word??

Can somebody tell me if Outlook 2007 would work for me if I did NOT have Word
on my computer at all? I have Microsoft Works Word Processor.
I just got a new x86 64-bit laptop and I want/need to use Outlook for my
email for continuity with my former system, but I'd rather not buy the rest
of the Office programs.
Thanks for any authoritative info on this. The phone salespeople all say
"Oh Outlook should be able to run on its own" but they don't seem at all
knowledgeable.....

You are forced to use Word as the new-mail editor in OL2007.

Outlook versions prior to 2007 allowed the user to choose between using the
new-mail editor embedded in Outlook or to use Word as the new-mail editor.
Outlook 2007 only uses Word for its new-mail editor. A stub of Word is
included in the install of Outlook (unless, of course, you also install Word
as part of MS Office). Consider Outlook 2007 as including a light version
of Word and also forcing you to use that light version of Word.

You can use outlook without the full suite, but the experience is better if
you install it as part of a suite. You'll lose the ability to use stationary
and themes and some spellcheck features. See
