Does Word 2002 startup delete metafiles from clipboard?

Hi,

Although not a big problem, I encountered the following strange behaviour.
When I do the following:

1) start Word 2002
2) start Visio and open file
3) "copy drawing" in Visio
4) "paste special" in Word

in that last step I can chose "picture" (i.e. as wmf, a windows metafile)
and "enhanced metafile" amongst other types (Visio object, etc.)

But when I change the order of actions to:

1) start Visio and open file
2) "copy drawing" in Visio
3) start Word 2002
4) "paste special" in Word

strangely enough I do _not_ have the option to paste as (enhanced) metafile.

And even Windows (XP) clipboard viewer shows that just starting Word removes
the metafile formats from the clipboard.

Can someone explain this to me?

Hi Tom,

The Clipboard isn't my area of expertise, but since no one has responded, I'll
give you "my best guess".

Fact: some outside applications interfere with the Clipboard. Fact: the Office
and the Windows clipboard aren't the same thing. It's possible one or both of
these are involved in what you're seeing.

If you start WINDOWS in Safe Mode, do you see any different behavior? If you
do, then there may be another application "sticking its fingers in the pie".

If that makes no difference, try holding CTRL when you start Word, to put that
into Safe Mode. If this makes a difference, then there may be a Word Addin on
your machine that's doing something.

Another possibility is that the Office clipboard is kicking in when Word
starts. See if starting Excel before going through the second set of steps
makes any difference. (That should start the Office clipboard, making it
available when you copy in Visio.)
