Does WORD 2003 save documents in temp files for recovery purposes?

With older versions of WORD, when system crashed and you lost the document
you were working on, you could enter a filename extension such as .wrl and
search for all such files. You would then open them with WORD and could often
find most of the document you had previously been working on. We recently had
a problem where WORD crashed and the autorecovery features did not work even
though WORD had been set to back up work every 10 minutes. This is just a
last ditch attempt to try to find the bulk of an otherwise lost document.
Thanks.

Word 2003 uses temp files exactly the same way as all earlier versions
at least back to Word 97. Explanations are at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632.

The less you use that computer after the crash, the more likely it is
that you might find bits and pieces of the document. You can use the
Search facility of Windows Explorer (My Computer) to look for phrases
you know were in the document.

Once you've found as much as you can, see
