Does Word 2007 support adv typographic features (ligatures etc)?

Hi,
I'm interested in using word to typeset reports. I use it for writing at the
moment and typeset in InDesign due to the advanced typographic features it
offers: ligatures, small capitals etc (which can be inserted automatically
and don't break the spell checker!)
I'm interested to use Word, particularly for less demanding jobs, as the
handling of footnotes and endnotes is *much* better.
Does the 2007 version of Word support these features?

Nothing I've heard or read so far indicates that anything has changed
with ligatures.

SmallCaps, hmmm, I don't see those breaking a spell checker per se? You
might want to create a character style containing SmallCaps as a
character property, and apply it to any text.
