Does WORD have a "cookie trail" feature?

Hello,

I am wondering if WORD has a "cookie trail" capability where i can mark a
spot, go to the next spot and back arrow or forward

forward arrow between spots?

Reason is, i'm using WORD's hypertext and bookmark capabilities to navigate
between software programs and would now like to

be able to navigate easier within the document itself!

After about 4 finds or searches within a document, i'm losing track of where
i've been and would like to toggle back and

forth between find locations to add additional documenation and references
ect!

If you have an suggestions or know of any tools that have this "cookie
trail" capability, i'd really appreciate hearing about it!

Thanks from BobK!

There are three "navigation" mechanisms in Word, but none of them are
exactly like what you describe.

The most flexible one is to insert bookmarks anywhere in the document
that you might want to return to. The number of bookmarks is pretty
much unlimited, but it's up to you to choose names for them that you
can interpret easily. Once the bookmarks exist, you can either use the
GoTo (Ctrl+G) command and pick "Bookmark" from the list and then
choose your desired place; or use the GoTo button in the Insert >
Bookmark dialog. It would be possible to write a VBA userform that
just showed the list of bookmark names and let you click once to go to
the chosen one. The implied drawback is that if you forget to place a
bookmark before moving away, that spot won't be accessible by this
means.

The Web toolbar has a Back button. If you hold down Ctrl+Alt while
dragging it, you can copy it to any other toolbar. Obviously this goes
back one spot at a time, just like the Internet Explorer's back
button.

The GoBack command (Shift+F5) cycles through the last three editing
positions. (This doesn't include any places where you just stopped to
look -- you must have made some change.)

Thanks alot Jay for your insights, very helpful!

I just tried the GoBack (shift+f5) and that's almost just what i'm looking
for!

So i'm wondering if i could create or have created a capability to do the
following:

1. When i create a bookmark, a vba/c# macro could capture the text field
being bookmarked and add a numeric value to the end, ie "function_a1"+"001".

2. Create another macro that would, when activated by a cntl/key, bring up a
screen with those back and forward arrows you mentioned.

3. And when i select the forward arrow for example, it would go to the
book_marklist and parse out the numeric value appended on the end of the
bookmark and based on the previously selected bookmark, know what the next
bookmark to go to is?

Off hand Jay, do you know of any contractors that would be willing to build
this macro feature at a reasonable fee?

Thanks again Jay!
