I have been having some lovely conversations with Word tonight.
"Actually, that was the Return key, not the spacebar, you stupid
program!" (Still shaking my head in disbelief at this one)
"When I clicked on 'Left-Justify', why did you FULL jusify, you stupid
program!" (The buttons aren't next to each other, so this is not a
simple case of clicking the wrong one)
"I said 'Center Justify'. I did NOT say 'turn off Bold, go back a line
for no apparent reason, and DON'T center justify', you stupid program!"
"When I say to use a heading style, it would be nice if you actually
applied it, you stupid program!"
"When I say to use a heading style, it would be nice if you actually put
the heading at the appropriate heading level in the table of contents
without my having to manually tell you to, you stupid program!"
"When I say to use a heading style, it would be nice if you only applied
it to the text I actually selected, you stupid program!"
It's *almost*, but not quite, enough to make you long for a typewriter.
Naturally these conversations have been rather one-sided. If there's a
way to make this program simply obey my commands without trying to
second-guess me, I haven't found it, and that stupid paperclip isn't
talking either.
Are there settings I can use to keep useful functionality like headings
and outline view, but cut down on Word's habit of doing stupid things I
didn't tell it to do and in some cases specifically told it *not* to?
I've gone into the Options and turned off several of them, but maybe
I've picked the wrong ones (they *REALLY* need to make the wordings more
vague, as it stands there is a remote possibility they might be of use
to someone - can't have that, now, can we?!?).
In conclusion, AAARGH!
PS
AAARGH!!!
