Does Word support conditional text?

I would like to maintain 2 separate versions of a document for different
product releases. FrameMaker has a conditional text feature with which you
can maintain both versions in a single document by tagging the material that
is not common to both versions.

Does Word have conditional text, or something like it?

Word has If fields which test for a condition and display text based on a
true/false analysis. Look this up in help.

You may want to look at what Word calls an "online form." Check this in
help. For more about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm especially Dian
Chapman's series of articles.

Hope this helps,
