I have Outlook 2003 and installed the Outlook Connector for
Notes/Domino. Finally got the hang of how to make this work (even
though it does get really slow sometimes, and it seems to love to keep
downloading all the entries in my calendar each time I startup).
Today, I got a call from my notes admin. He said that I was killing
the notes server -- that I had about 70-80 open ports to the server.
I started up a network sniffer on my computer, and he was right.
Somehow, the connector opens a bunch of ports (minimum of 12 and then
it keeps increasing the longer you use it). They all go to the notes
server on port 1352. Only one or two of the connections appear to be
carrying much data, the rest have small usage, but seem to keep
increasing in usage the longer the service is up.
Plus, it seems that there are some 6 or 8 packets exchanged every 8-12
seconds. Is this the connector checking for new mail on the server???
Seems like an awfully short delta between checks.
I was using Notes Client 5.08 when this was first noticed. I updated
my notes client version to 6.5.1 and the same thing happened. So, I
don't think this is an IBM/Lotus problem.
Any ideas? I am afraid I am going to have to go back to using both
Notes and Outlook separately, which really sucks!!!
