don't make tools options view" hidden " the default

I made up a test, put the answers in formatted as hidden. Little did I know
that once the students opened up the test that the answers were no longer
hidden. Apparently the default for the tools is to view the hidden. I don't
think that this is a good idea

Users are in control of their view options. Many users choose to display
nonprinting characters as a matter of course. Formatting answers as Hidden
is useful only for printed documents.

I don't know that it is the default. It is an application setting rather
than a document-specific setting. So, even if the default were "off." All it
would take is one student changing it and it would stay that way until
someone changed it back.

I have my Word set up to turn it on whenever I start Word because I put lots
of directions and other things in hidden text in my documents. You should
never expect that anything you put into a Word document can't be read by
others, especially students with time on their hands!

You could print your test out to a pdf file and use a separate Word answer
sheet for them to put their answers on. That way the hidden text would stay
hidden in the pdf (unlesss you set it to print hidden text).
