Since Saturday, the site to order backups disks (or discs as MS spells it)
isn't working for me.
Go to www.microsoft.com/office/backup, enter the date the computer was
purchased (February 26 2008), the date the Office software was purchased
(February 28, 2008), and click Continue.
You get a page that asks for your 25-digit product key and a CAPTCHA. I
entered those, and clicked Continue. I get right back to the same page.
This worked on Friday -- it asked me for an e-mail address and promised to
send me a download link within 2 to 4 hours. It's now Monday, and no link.
And the site doesn't want to go any further. Maybe because I already
ordered it, but it should TELL me that, if it's stopping here for that
reason.
And I have 1) Erased temporary Internet files, 2) Rebooted my computer, 3)
There's no spam filter on the e-mail address, so that's not the problem.
Has anyone else seen problems on this site?
I called Microsoft and spent 2 hours on the phone with 5 different people,
and no one was able to help me. I even have my order number from when I
paid $9.00 to get discs mailed to me. I really want to download the
software, though, and I *should be able to*.
By the way, the site says "You'll find the product key on the blue sticker
inside the front cover of your Medialess License Kit." This is not true!
For Office Basic 2007, at least, the product key is on a credit-card-sized
plastic card that is INSIDE the Medialess License Kit cardboard booklet,
behind a flap that you have to open.
Marketing needs to keep the site in sync with the truth.
I also had a Microsoft support technician tell me that there is no such
edition as Office Basic 2007. I wish they would get trained.
Please let me know if anyone else has seen problems, or a better phone
number to call that gets to someone who can help. (I tried Digital River,
who does a bunch of fulfillment for MS, and they weren't able to help me
either.)
