MS Word is a powerful program, but in my experience there are many things
that trip up the occasional user. For example, while working on a document
template Word decided to put an underline in the footer. The margins for
that underline are different from the line at the top of the footer.
Doubtless there's a setting somewhere that makes it do this, but finding it
is a challenge for me.
Thanks to a hard disk crash I have a brand new copy of Word 2002 SP-2
installed on my computer. I want to make a template for our company
reports. Rather than the hit and miss (and miss and miss <g>) procedure
used in the past, I'd like to find a checklist to follow to make the
template as foolproof as possible. The template will have sections,
different first page headers and footers, and a table of contents.
Documents made from the template will be Track Changes edited and merged by
several non-expert Word users.
One thing I'm unclear about is the overall document font. We are
contemplating whether or not we should change the base font. Is it best to
base styles on Normal or should I make my own baseline and build on it.
(I.e., does Normal do special things?)
Thanks.
