dot leaders will come only after the number, not before.
i have inserted tab, right aligned and dot leader, but i
can't make the dot leader come first (as in a toc).

i'm trying to auto number a list. all auto numbering

afterwards.

This is not a possible use of autonumbering. You can't have a tab before the
autonumber and therefore can't have a period leader before the autonumber.

Auto numbering is made to create numbers _before_ other text (o
numbers). If you want a dot leader in a TOC, you will need to typ
your headings first, hit tab, then type the number.

Have you considered having Word generate your TOC for you? It's muc
easier, and faster to update after changes have been made

You need to create the number with a ListNum field, not Auto-Numbering.

You can look up "ListNum fields" in the Word Help. A couple of pointers
(the Help is a little cryptic...):

1) The KIND of the numbering is set by the Name inside the ListNum field.
The Help gives the impression that you can create your own kinds -- you
can't, you have to choose one of the three predefined kinds.

2) To set the format of the numbering, select the number and click the
Promote or Demote buttons. There are seven formats within each kind :)

Hope this helps
