DotM Template Problem

Hello,
I have just got one 2003 word file, and then I started editing it in word
2007, and everything was working fine, then I did my changes and saved the
file saved in doc file, and actually word 2007 was running in compatablility
mode, afterwards I tried to open my edited file which has been saved in 2007
but it is not working and it showing one error message : "word was unable to
read the document, It may be corrupt, try one or more of the following:..."
it has one link to one KB item that's relevant to Access not Word, however
after so many trials, by comparing first version and last version, I got to
know that the template is differnt for the first file it's Noramal.dot, while
it's Normal.DotM for the second file, and I think that is the reason as dotm
is a 2007 format, I just want to know how to change the template of a word
file from outside the application to get my updates back, this problem
happened to me so many times, and I couldn't reveal it, also I am not adding
any macros in the file so why word made the template dotm without giving any
kind of alerts !!!
Please help, Thanks you so much !!!

No I didn't, I will do it soon, but my concern is to know why Word 2007 is
not opening the document.
Thanks

Now I am confused. Are you saying that the document won't open in Word 2007?
Does it still open in Word 2003?
