Dots in between each word

Everytime I try to type there is a dot placed between
each word. Also when I press "Enter" to skip down a line
it places a "paragraph symbol" each time I press Enter.
This gets real annoying and cumbersome to see I bunch of
dots and paragraph symbols all over the place. Any
Suggestions???
