Double inbox entries and bounced replies

About a year ago I added an alternate email address to my outlook account, so
now email sent to both addresses all hits the same inbox, which is what I
wanted. Two problems (possibly related) have resulted. First, all emails sent
to the alternate address come into the inbox twice instead of once. Second,
every time I try to reply to an email sent to the alternate address, it
bounces as undeliverable, so I have to paste the sender's address into a
blank email in order to reply to anything (what a pain). Neither of these
problems occurs with email sent to the primary address. Any help appreciated.
