Double Numbering of Footnotes in Copied Document

Using Word 2000 I copied a document from the internet
which contained footnotes and a short outline.

The copied document added footnote numbers and outline
numbers. I removed the outline numbers, but the extra
footnote numbers aren't as easy. They look like 1[1],
2[2], etc.

How do I remove the extra numbering?

Doug Robbins - Word MVP - DELETE UPPERCASE CHARACT

Assuming that the numbers within the square brackets are actual numbers and
not a field, use a Wildcard replace with

\[[0-9]{1,}\]

in the Find what control and nothing in the Replace with control. That will
delete all of the square brackets and the numbers within them.
